I paid to give birth at the birth center and went through the motions to prepare for giving birth there. I don’t like the any of local hospitals, have very limited transportation, and wasn’t planning on using any kind of pain medication during labor/delivery so this was the perfect option for me.
In my third trimester is when my problems began to arise. At 29 weeks I awoke from a nap bleeding pretty heavily. A midwife met me at the center and told me I should go to the hospital to be fully checked out. The hospital had barely any info to give me besides, “if this happens again, go to a hospital with a NICU”. When I went to the birth center the next day Lucie explained what she believed had happened in an easy to understand way.
Another month or so later I became very nauseous and unable to keep food or water down. Freya sent in some lab work to see if I had preeclampsia and scheduled me for an ultrasound the following Friday. I went for the ultrasound and everything appeared normal. About ten minutes after leaving from the ultrasound, I received a call from Lucie about the results of the labs. I was instructed to go to a hospital with a Nicu to be checked out. I was at 33 weeks gestation at this point. I made it to st Joseph’s women’s hospital, told them the history and had the birth center fax my records over. An ultrasound tech came in and did an ultrasound, as well as the same labs that freya ordered were done, once again.
A few hours later, the doctor told me that we were going to have to have an emergency C section because I had preeclampsia and my placenta had separated and was covering my cervix. Less than an hour later my son was born. He spent two weeks in the NICU learning to eat in his own, regulate his body temperature, and gain weight.
Things don’t always turn out the way you plan them, but I am glad I had such a fantastic team to help me understand what was going on at the time, because the hospital didn’t do such a great job of that. Thank you to everyone at In Due Season for being so helpful during and after pregnancy and birth. I was more comfortable with you ladies than I feel I would have been with an OB.

I had my 3rd child in the peace and comfort of our home and it was magical. Wish I could go back and do my first two the same way with these same wonderful women by our side!
No words to describe how amazing our experience with everyone at this office has been.
I started with another mid wife group and while they were very nice- I never felt fully comfortable there. Something told me I needed to do another search online for other options in the area. I cannot express how grateful I am for finding Lucie’s birthing center. When I walked in the place- I just knew it was for me. Nothing but good vibes. Fast forward to 39 weeks pregnant- getting nervous and doubting myself. They continued to comfort and reassure me everything was going to be fine.
Well it was more than fine!! On January 9th we welcomed out first baby girl into the world after less than 2 hours or labor, with Lucie and Khamissa by our side assisting and motivating me through it. It was the most beautiful experience ever. If we ever decide to have any more children there in no question where I would go. I wish everyone could have this experience!!
Thank you again to these awesome women! God Bless you!!

I was looking for an alternative environment to birth my third child. My first two children were born in a hospital which I was not enthusiastic to repeat. From my first visit, the staff was open and welcoming, they provided much information as to my choices and options for birthing at home or the center. I decided to birth at the center via a water birth. I was referred out to USF for a Level 2 scan as baby was showing smaller than pregnancy age. I am 38 which can increase chances of baby having issues. The referral was handled by In Due and I got an appointment quickly. The scan showed no issues and we proceeded with treatment at the birth center. Baby was born at 38 weeks on a Sunday, called midwife when contractions were 5 minutes apart and met her at the birth center about an hour later. Baby came so fast that I was unable to have baby in birthing tub as originally planned but I could not have asked for a better experience. The atmosphere was so peaceful that baby did not cry but just looked around when he arrived. We did skin to skin immediately and delayed clamping. Baby was never far from me while vitals were checked and during this corona virus environment I was so happy to be in a small knowledgeable facility that helped us bring our third child safely into this world. Highly recommend In Due Season to all that are expecting!
