  If you want to be a pet owner have your ducks in a row and schedule regular vet visits after adopting from any institution. A lot of the complaints about this place are boiled down to people thinking this is a pet store and others about staffing. This place probably isn't given a ton of funding and there's too many stray animals in this world to be able to take care of all of them.

  I had to have our dog put down, considering how upsetting it was, there were 2 people up front that were friendly. The gentleman in particular that helped me went above and beyond as did the lady that took her . They spent time talking to me and discussing the situation quite a bit. I really appreciate how everything was handled. Very professional & understanding.

  Have you ever seen a picture of an animal and think, "That's the one!" That's what I did when I saw the picture of a scared little cat on the Polk County Website. I put a hold on this cat and thought she'd be ready for adoption soon. Apparently she was very sick and needed a lot of treatment. Nearly two months pasted and I was amazed she was still there. They have so many other animals; healthier than she was, who also need to be adopted. I wasn't sure they had the time or resources to help her. I would call and check on her every few days. The staffed assured me they we're doing all they could. Finally the day came, I got the call to come pick her up! I was told me she had some complications and one of her eyes had to be removed. They asked if I still wanted to adopt her and of course I did! Long story short, I'm amazed and grateful for everything the shelter did for this one sick cat. She's thriving in her new home and getting along well with my other animals. Despite everything she's endured she's still a love bug; best cat anyone could ask for. Thank you Polk County Animal Services!
