Well.....this is a well kept secret by the folks that live around there. A small place with a homey atmosphere....and GREAT food !! No need to dress up....casual is the code. We've only been there a few times and have a lot left to taste, but so far YUMMY YUMMY GOOD....this is some place you should try if seafood is a favorite fare
This is one of those little places you can easily drive past and have no idea what a gem it is. It's very small and if its busy you may have to wait a bit but I promise it is well worth it. BEST claim strips I had in a long time. Great prices and the stuff are down to earth and friendly.
People who say Essex is pricey need to revisit any seafood place in any other town. For only 20 bucks you get three braces of the finest snow crabs steamed to perfection. That’s $30 elsewhere, folks. The little place is rustic and picturesque--a deck overlooking a pond with a cute flock of ducks and a view of Reveille Farms across the street. Inside is small with no frills, and you should be prepared to wait or to share a table as they are almost always packed when they are open. Servers are friendly and efficient. Cash only. Plenty of steamed options as well as grilled or for $2 more, baked for the health-conscious. But when you crave fried seafood, you need to go here. Because they fry in LARD. And that’s a great thing! Always fresh lard that makes an inimitably light, crispy-tender crust that caresses your taste buds.
Like many other reviewers have said, the whole-belly clams are wonderful and not available many other places, the Boston cream pie must be indulged in. Even the sides are good; they serve their coleslaw molded onto a plate. I’ve never had any fish or seafood that wasn’t prepared perfectly, although I’m sure sometimes things happen. They are definitely close enough to perfect for me!
We have 8 weeks at the beach each year
and usually stop at Essex while traveling
in either direction. (....for nearly ,10 years)
I would pass ANY seafood house in all of Daytona and surroundings to be able to
visit Essex. There is no best!, which simply means -------it's all good--+--!(don't get me
started or I may tell you how I really feel about this place),
and, the wait staff cannot be beat.
Superb place. Go And Enjoy
Andy
The food here is absolutely amazing! The staff are sweet and the service is quick. This place was definitely worth the 45 min drive!!
