Was ok, but it is a far travel from where we live. Would define every week if it was closer.
Friendly congregation
Spruce Creek Presbyterian Church is a very blessed group of believers who are genuine in their desire to worship and serve the Lord. that much was evident immediately upon meeting some of the families there. The love that my family received while only visiting was, and continues to be, tangible even outside the doors of the church building. This you will see quickly in one of the community groups, bible studies, youth events or just in a friendly get-together. The doctrine is faithfully preached and the sacraments faithfully administered according to the Biblical Reformed tradition. Also, there is a real sense of the importance of the entire family in worship whether you keep your children with you during the whole service or send the young ones to "children's church." All that said, and in the interest of full disclosure, SCPC is an imperfect example of the grace of our perfect Savior, Jesus Christ. So be careful... there are a lot of sinners there, sinners saved by grace alone through faith alone, in Christ alone as revealed in Scripture alone, and all to the Glory of God alone!
I love how Spruce Creek consistently preaches the truths of Scripture and works to educate and equip its members to love, work and live in the community as believers.
Spruce Creek stands out to me especially at a time when it seems that so many churches are either catering to the times at the expense (or watering down) of truth or the other extreme - using scripture as a tool and excuse to harshly judge those who aren't just like themselves. In my experience, this church honors Christ in the way it adheres to and preaches all of the truths of Scripture in love, with discipline, and it does so without compromise.
The congregation of about 150-200 consists of a mix of younger families (infants to high schoolers) and older members of varying backgrounds and ethnicities. I like that the congregation is multi-generational so that the wisdom of the older folks gets passed to the younger folks and vice versa.
Finally, I like that the leadership is a session of many elders of varying ages and life stages. I think this allows Pastor Jeff to be able to focus more effectively on delivering excellent preaching and provides protection for the church from becoming exclusively preacher-led. I feel very blessed that my wife and I are able to worship and serve in this body.
Jeff Birch is a dynamic, intelligent teacher steeped in the Truth. The congregation is warm, friendly and welcoming. What a wonderful testimony to Truth lived out in community. Last Sunday's sermon was on Genesis 1:1-3. What a great place to begin the story of God's sweet costly reconciliation.
