The size also aids in maintaining the serene and loving environment that the school is notorious for. Everyone knows EVERYONE. You eventually form bonds that feel almost home-like with students, teachers, administration, custodial crew, and even security guards. With relationships so tight-knit, conflict rarely ever arises. (This is because we're unlike larger high schools - student voices are always heard and never ignored, and they indefinitely matter.) Being accepted into such a matchless educational institution is truly an honor and a privilege I appreciated endlessly. We moved from South Florida to St. Johns and didn’t feel comfortable at that time taking her to the public school before the vaccines were out. My daughter Sophia not only found her voice at River Oak but also had the opportunity to participate in innovation and entrepreneurship activities that were life changing for her. Sophia developed deep friendships in this almost “magical” environment that sees each individual as a person and their unique needs. From a learning perspective we had to supplement a bit some areas like Math and Science during summer, however she developed some amazing writing and reading skills at River Oak Academy using the “waseca” method. At the end of 1st grade her level of reading and writing was equivalent to 4th grade. Thanks to Mrs. Mary, Vincent, Vanessa and all that makes River Oak Academy such an amazing place for children. Sarah ran a mock test, scored the exam, and then developed a custom study map based on the areas they needed most help with & the SAT exam schedule. We moved from Tampa Bay to Miami a year and a half ago, and although we had to change to online lessons, we'd rather have Mary as our teacher and mentor than anyone here in Miami. Mary is the consummate professional: her education and performance curriculum vitae are top of the top. Mary's adored by our two children, 9 and 15.
