I have been working with Dave for several years, trying to build classical guitar skills. The blend of practical work and music theory is very helpful. He challenges you to think beyond simple music reading and playing. Recommended!
Dave's an incredible teacher. Though I've played for years, my knowledge of the fretboard and technique have grown so much as a result of Dave's holistic approach. He has a way of giving you the full picture so that everything comes together in your development and command of the instrument, from theory to application. Plus, he consistently challenges you to keep growing and expanding your horizons. And now, back to practice!
I've worked with Dave for about 8 months and I and am very happy with my progress. We started by filling in the (large) gaps in my music theory, with him giving me exercises, ideas, and tips to make playing much more enjoyable. He has identified key elements that have improved my playing style and we work on these regularly. As well as being very patient with me, he is fun to work with and fosters a productive but stress free environment.
After 40 years of fooling around with the guitar I decided to actually learn something. Dave seems to know everything about the guitar and music in general. He can play and teach many styles, knows theory and even a lot of interesting trivia. I am working on rock and blues with my electric guitar and finger style with my acoustic. All good and having a great time. I wish I had considered working with Dave a couple of years sooner.
My 17 year old son has been taking lessons from Dave for over a year. Dave is very patient, focused and flexible in his teaching style. Dave adjusts the lessons to my son's interests while taking into consideration my son's playing ability. My son will come to a lesson with a song that he wants to play and Dave is able to hear the song and then write down the notes and chords for my son to take home and practice during the week. My son really enjoys going to his lesson each week and I would definitely recommend Dave to anyone who is looking to begin, continue or renew playing the guitar.
