I love to eat at Donnie's. The prices are very cheap and the food is great. Just a basic, wholesome, homestyle meal. I always get the fish, collard greens, cornbread, and peach cobbler. That will cost you about $8.00. Drink included. Donnie's is a local well kept secret. Next time you are in the area looking for a place to buy lunch, this is the spot. Your belly and your wallet will thank you.
Definitely worth the money and any drive to it. I'd have to honestly say this is one of the best diners I have ever been to. The staff was warm and friendly, the portions are very generous, and I swear these ladies are cooking it at home because there ain't no way food this delicious with homemade quality is coming from a diner. Must experience if you're in the area.
We had never heard of Donnie’s County Cooking before today. Saw it while poking through Grubhub looking for something interesting...and decided to give it a try. The order arrived quickly (before the ETA), complete, packaged well for delivery and still warm. A minute in the microwave made up for any heat loss during delivery. We ordered the country fried steak (comes with white rice underneath) with sides of mashed potatoes, fried zucchini, fried okra, root beer, and peach cobbler for dessert.
The country fried steak was tender and less “stringy” than some other places but overall with the white gravy, was tasty, albeit average. The rice was cooked well and tasty. Loved the mashed potatoes, as they were smooth and creamy like the ones I grew up eating. The fried zucchini (which included carrot slices and onion) were cooked like I like them (still crispy) and most pleasantly seasoned. Delicious fried okra, cornbread muffin and Mug Root Beer rounded out an excellent lunch. Really good peach cobbler too. Nice generous portions made the experience even more worthwhile. Will certainly will be ordering from here again.
