  Craig is simply the best sales person. Patient helpful and resourceful. Not overbearing and pushy.
  Great experience at this store, everything went well and the product I purchased was excellent quality.

  I purchased two lovely nightstands and a twin mattress at Art Van after visiting MANY other stores. I was quite impressed with their selections and range of prices. But the best part of my experience was my salesman, Calvin. He was extremely knowledgeable and let me know about quality and workmanship. He was great about understanding what I was looking for and my price restrictions. Delivery and set up were easy and prompt. I would go back in a second to find any other pieces I was looking for.

  31 years ago, as a newly married couple moving to Michigan, we purchased our first new furniture from Art Van. We bought a couch and love seat and an entertainment center but couldn’t find a dining set that we agreed on. The salesman then led us to the clearance section where we found a beautiful, ornate table, chairs and server which we both fell in love with immediately. Our furniture buying experience was great and created a warm place in our hearts for Art Van.
  Fast forward to today. We moved back into our Illinois home and needed new dining room chairs. While looking for a dinner restaurant, we ended up close to an Art Van store. Because our first buying experience had been so good, we impulsively decided to drop in and see what was available.
  To our delight, we came upon a design that we both liked. To top it off, the chairs were on sale for less than half the original price and they had just the right number. We scooped them up immediately.
  Craig S. was our salesman and was an amazing guy, answering our every question. His South African accent was simply icing on the cake.
  Once again Art Van came through for us, finding what we wanted and saving us money.
  They really are a store with a heart and great furniture.

  Art Van Elslander’s furniture business began 4,000 square-foot space in Gratiot Avenue and 10 Mile Road in what was then called East Detroit (now Eastpointe). Art Vans Furniture (later changed to Art Van Furniture) opened with mostly modern and Danish-style furniture. By 1963, Van Elslander owned seven stores and had taken on some partners, including his brother, Bob Van Elslander, Don Fox and Bob McEachin. Van Elslander expanded the chain in the 1970s, and purchased headquarters in Warren, Michigan. The company introduced a credit card in 1980.
  
  In 1985, Art Van introduced Clearance Centers attached to many of the stores offering overstocked merchandise at 40 to 70 percent off retail which allowed the company to expand its market penetration. In 2009, the company’s half-centennial, Art Van Furniture was named “Furniture Retailer of the Year” by Furniture Today magazine.
  
  Today, Art Van Furniture operates 39 stores in Michigan and now has 12 stores in the Chicago area. In addition, the company operates an additional store in Toledo, Ohio, and another in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Art Van also has over 40 freestanding Art Van PureSleep mattress stores in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. Offerings inside some Art Van stores include Paul's TV and Art Van Flooring. Art Van Furniture also operates three Scott Shuptrine interior design studios in the state of Michigan. The company has more than 3,000 associates and 400 service and delivery vehicles.
  
  In 2010, Art Van acquired Brewbaker's Furniture, which had locations in Petoskey and Onaway.[3] The Onaway store was closed in 2013.[4] That same year, Young's Appliance of Alpena became the chain's first franchised location.[5] Franchise locations have since opened in Marquette, Sault Ste. Marie, Mount Pleasant,[6] Gaylord, Owosso, and East Tawas, along with a PureSleep franchise in Midland and a franchise of Sofa Select in Mishawaka, Indiana.[7] The store's first franchise location in Illinois opened on November 7, 2015, in Rockford.[8]
