  Full disclosure: my mother was the 2nd owner of this kennel- a place of business my family ran for the majority of the 40+ years of its existence. I literally spent my childhood living in the house on the property; had to wake up hours before school every day, from my 8th birthday until the day we sold to the current owners some ten years later, to help walk the dogs, clean, feed and water them, and then after spending 8+ hours at school/extracurriculars, return home and do it all over again in the afternoon. This kennel is the backbone of my character and a place I could not hold more dearly in my heart. With that, when I first was told of the allegations against the O'Driscoll's (at the time of sale, I only knew John, and even that was no more than a passing encounter or two) I was floored. I remember distinctly having an almost extreme, visceral reaction to it. So much so that I immediately started calling my former neighbors, those whom still lived in the surrounding homes to the kennel, to tried and obtain as much information on the situation as possible. What I was told by some was disturbing and by others contradictory. The only common thread between the stories was that it was all hearsay. I remember telling my mother about the story, thinking the whole time that this single mother who figuratively, and at times literally, poured her blood, sweat, and tears into building that kennel into a thriving business would be devastated by the news. She wasn't. Her immediate response was: "I had accusations of every kind during our time there. If the stories are true, it's awful, but I had far too many confrontations with owners, neighbors, lookie-loos, animal rights activists, property developers and everything in between to just take a story and treat it as gospel. It's such a unique business. These are live animals that are loved as members of a family. Emotions run incredibly high, as they should... don't you remember when someone accused you of abusing a dog?" I had completely forgotten about it. I was 15, taking ‘Sammy’ for a walk. Unbeknownst to me, a since moved neighbor directly behind the kennel had thrown a party the night before and for who knows what reason, a glass bottle ended up shattering inside a large gravel play/exercise area- the same area I was taking the dog on his walk to. As I opened the gate to the area, the dog excitedly ran through the opening, straight towards the glass (which had largely blended in w/the gravel) Thankfully, I saw the glass shimmer in the sunlight- however the combination of the dog's speed/momentum and my noticing the glass suddenly, my reaction to tug on the dog's leash and out of terror the dog would cut his poor paws up I screamed "SAMMY, NO!!!" it was very hasty and emphatic but also necessary to not have the dog injured in a potentially severe way. My scream was loud enough to instantly have anyone within earshot snap their head around. Ironically, the neighbor who may or may not have thrown the damn bottle in the first place, 'witnessed' me tug extremely hard on the dog's leash and cause him to forcefully and abruptly get pulled backward in a way that I'm sure appeared almost violent. I'm sure everyone can piece together the reaction/rest of the story. The point is, as it should be, people are naturally very protective of care of defenseless living things. My neighbor was right in addressing the situation- because doing differently could be potentially dangerous- however, the assumption of guilt was egregious and completely damning to me personally. It's not on the same level, however at the time, to me it felt how I assumed it feels when a parent gets falsely accused of neglect/abuse on their child- I grew up surrounded by, and caring for, animals my entire life to that point and outside of my family there was nothing I loved more. It was awful. And it would have been infinitely worse if it had happened in the days of social media and yelp like sites.

  My son loves this school! The teachers are great and help give him the confidence he so desperately needed! The only downside is they don't have a set language arts program which I feel is so important in today's day and age with texting and social media. They do have a supplement that helps but sometimes kids need some set direction. The English language isn't the easiest! Otherwise I'm happy my son spent 3 years at this school!
