Scenic location and pleasant atmosphere
It was a nice day to place is nice and clean not crowded enjoyed myself
Lots of places to wander and plentiful wildlife. For the more adventurous some fun cliffs and bluffs to climb.
The Keepataw Preserve has good views of the Des Plaines River Valley. The trail from the parking lot loops around the center of the preserve. It is wide and easy to navigate. For the more adventurous hiker there are small deer trails that lead out to the edges of the preserve boundaries. There is a small trail that leads to a large brick chimney. At some point it must have been part of a larger structure, but now is the only remnant. There is also a trail that leads along the top of the valley wall offering interesting views of the Veterans Memorial Bridge, wetland areas, and industrial structures in the valley.
Keepataw Preserve protects a diversity of habitats, including forest, prairie, wetland and a portion of the Des Plaines River. A unique feature of the site is a 60-foot bluff carved from limestone deposits mined around the turn of the 20th century.
