(September 5, 2018, 9:16 am)I've been a tenant here for 8 years. Jim Bult did a fantastic job turning old Sanger from a small time mom & pop airport to a super nice regional airport that you want to land at for fuel, food, or just to check it out. The terminal resembles a post and beam structure that you would find in Aspen, it's beautiful. The runway is 75' x almost a mile of concrete in excellent condition. The hangars are concrete floors with insulated walls and internet-controlled heat. My plane stays a comfy 50F all winter.
My only gripes are;
I wish there was a piston repair shop on the field. I hear there are a few mechanics based here, but I don't know them.
The place needs a restaurant!
The State of Illinois bought the airport from Bult 4 years ago. About 1.5 years ago the self-serve fuel pump started having problems dispensing. Sometimes when you really needed fuel after hours the pump wouldn't work and you were stuck flying to Lansing or other nearby airport to get fuel. It took them over a year, but they finally replaced the pump and it's working great now. But that year of pump trouble was a serious hassle for tenants and the whole situation was avoidable.
More recently a section of the beautiful concrete runway upheaved due to heat. Rather than repair it with concrete like Bult had done in the past, the State patched it with asphalt. It's not even a good patch as it's sinking and you can definitely feel the bow in that section of the times on rollout. -

(June 6, 2018, 7:44 pm)Awesome terminal! I appreciate the food selection. After a long flight I really enjoy heating up a burger and enjoying the view. Our patrols are long and having the ability to kick back and relax for a few minutes here has been very helpful. The museum is cute and caught us by surprise. If only more airports in this area could follow the Bult example. The resident pilots are all friendly and helpful. Ted Sanders especially. Marc the line guy is really cool and always has a smile. Thank you Bult for a wonderful experience and we will be back week after week.

(December 4, 2017, 12:08 am)Landed here late and took a nap before grabbing fuel on a long x country. The security guard was making his rounds and checked on us to make sure everything was okay. We explained that we were resting our eyes during this long trip, and he offered to let us in the pilot lounge to rest in a more comfortable space. It’s a great facility with great personnel. Very welcoming. Highly recommend.
