“I haven't lived in Illinois for more than two weeks and I am struck with a tooth infection. I know it's a tooth infection because I have had them before. I am nearly certain I need antibiotics because normal pain meds won't fix it. In my experience, by not getting antibiotics this has led to complications in the past. Being new to the state, my first course of action was to go to the ER closest to my house. I sat in the waiting room after registration for an hour, while my fiance spent that time calling around urgent cares and other ER's. A person at this ER answered and said they had short wait times. It was a Sunday afternoon. In the time it took us to drive 20 minutes from the first ER to this one, and to be registered, seen by nurses, then a doctor was quicker than just waiting for triage in the other ER. The nurses as well as registration were kind. The doctor examined my mouth. I was in a lot of pain at this point. The doctor prescribed me antibiotics and I was excited to get this infection out of my body!! Unfortunately for me, over the course of Monday and into Tuesday afternoon, the initial course of antibiotics didn't do the trick. This infection is a fierce one and has spread the pain from my tooth ache to my face. It has swollen my cheeks to my neck. At this point I got pretty freaked out because I knew someone who had their abscessed tooth infection go into their neck and almost kill them. So as per previous instructions, if after 24 hours of taking the meds the swelling persists then return to ER. I woke up Tuesday morning with a fat face. Called my fiance at work to take me to the ER, and once he was able to escape work he came to deliver me to the ER. Once there I was greeted by two people, checked in. Saw some familiar faces from two days prior. Spoke to a doctor who was very kind and knowledgeable about my tooth infection. She and I spoke about options to treat my infection and now I am on the track to getting better. Still at the pharmacy lol.”
