Dined in. It has been years since I went to John's. In fact the last time I was there was before I went into the Marines in 1984. They were in Calumet City, Illinois back then.
The food was so good even decades later.
They have a unique, vintage-type dining area inside. It makes me feel like I’m 40-50 years in the past. There wasn’t any other tables of people besides us, which made the experience even better.
We ordered the Family Dinner, which consisted of House Salad, Garlic Bread, A 1-Topping Pizza, Broasted Chicken, and Spaghetti with Sauce. She served us our House Salad first. It was alright. I wasn’t too crazy about it since it was basically only lettuce, tomatoes, and dressing. After that, we were served Garlic Bread. It had just the right amount of crunch and garlic. We chose Sausage for our topping and the pizza was cooked great. The Sausage was also very unique and enjoyable. The Broasted Chicken had a nice, smooth batter around it. The meat was good quality. The Spaghetti with Sauce was awesome. The Sauce was what made the dish for me! The portion of the bowl was plentiful.
The service was fantastic. She was on top of everything. We barely had to even ask for anything. She basically read our minds!
Overall, their food is pretty dang good in a laid-back environment. I’m sure I’ll be back someday.
Might just be the best pizza and bread sticks in lake and porter county. I usually get sausage and pepperoni, family size, and we have left overs the next day. Just the pizza tho, kids eat up the bread sticks. The angle hair spaghetti dinner is pretty good also. I highly recommend and because they open early, you can beat the dinner rush. I live about 30 miles away and it’s worth the trip every time.
