The Baltimore Montessori is an excellent school with the best teachers (Shout out to Ms. Lindsay and Ms. Caryn)! Our children attended TBM, first in the toddler rooms and moved onto the primary classrooms and completed kindergarten at TBM. We have grown with the institution and the play-grounds and kitchen garden are excellent additions, despite the urban locale of the school. The lessons taught are excellent - from the peace table/peace corner to allow kids to reflect/take time out to the interactive, hands-on activities from cutting and coring apples is very much in line with the Montessori Method. The methods teachers implement for reading are phenomenal - both of our kids are strong readers, who understand content and we attribute it to TBM. The enriching portions, such as yoga, Spanish language lessons and arts/crafts were our children's favorite times. The kindergarten year is worth it despite the cost - we saw our oldest blossom in her third primary year. The lesson plans she was exposed to since the age of 3 came together for her in the 3rd year - she was more comfortable with her peers, teachers and the classroom setting. As a kindergartener, she was a "leader" in the room for the younger kids and this greatly boosted her confidence. The Kindergarten year consists of several field-trips and these were a big highlight for the kids and provides an opportunity for parents to chaperone, too. It incorporates lesson plans and brings the classroom outside. The school's proximity to Latrobe Park is an added bonus - most spring and summer nights, we went to the park after-school, so they kids played with friends and parents were able to meet each other, too. We commuted into the city and did it because we believed in the success and positive growth for our kids. My one suggestion - if your child will transition from TBM into public school, work with them at home on mainstream math vocabulary (add/subtract/multiply/divide) because the terminology used at TBM is different from a public school classroom.

My son (21 months) has been attending the school for only 2 months (Locust Point location) and has thrived. He was in another school/daycare since 3 months and since he started going to Baltimore Montessori I have seen his development excel. The teachers are wonderful and are very knowledgeable. The director is very sweet and professional. Before we started attending we were on a wait list. The owner is a little uncommunicative but always asks us to contact the director, which is fine because the director is the one that actually runs the school and does a great job. We had to have many email communications prior to starting for various questions we had and all of them were answered very timely. They get a lot of interest in this school (for good reason) so you need to actively pursue your enrollment. We couldn't be happier and can't wait to see how much he grows in development here.

My daughter attended the Baltimore Montessori in Locust Point from the time she was able to enroll (18mo) until she started Pre-K this past fall and we cannot be happier with our experience there. She always looked forward to going to “school” where the teachers/staff all knew her name and greeted her with a smile. They genuinely care about the kids and I am so thankful we had the opportunity to send her there. I highly recommend The Baltimore Montessori to others who are looking at their options in the Fed Hill/Locust Point areas.

Montessori is different from other teaching methods which took some getting used to, but my daughter benefited from being in a class with a wider age range once she moved to the primary classrooms. The learning method gave her freedom to learn a variety of subjects from practical life skills to geography. The children sometimes worked in groups to teach each other concepts or learn together. I enjoyed seeing my daughter so proud to show me the words she learned, a new activity she masters, or how she can cut vegetables by herself with a special cutter (although that still makes me nervous). She gained independence and confidence in being able to do things herself. Teachers were always willing to chat for a few minutes if I had questions about what she was learning and skills we could practice at home to reinforce lessons as school.

During the 2015 snow storm management worked very hard to make sure the school could open as much as they could without it being dangerous for the children or teachers/staff to get there. Like anything else – I encourage people to visit the facility, talk to the teachers and parents who have/had children at places you are considering and if their parenting styles align with yours. We were very happy with our experience and highly recommend it.

Both of our children attended from 18 months of age through kindergarten. The teachers are kind and foster a real love of learning. Our kids were always excited to go to school in the morning. (Also they taught our kids how to read and how to use the bathroom!!)

We can’t say enough good things about the Baltimore Montessori and we have a unique perspective in being able to evaluate the school. Not only did both our children spend ages 2-6 with the school, but our nanny was eventually recruited to become one of the assistants at her school and our son’s teaching assistant was eventually recruited to become one of the full time Montessori trained teachers. We witnessed the way the school and its administrators fostered the careers of future young teachers from the ground level up.

We chose the school after visiting several preschool programs and one of the things that helped us make the decision was the longevity of her core faculty. These teachers and assistants had been with her since the school’s inception and it was a quick way for us to assess the stability of the program and the depth with which the teachers understood the mission.

We are abidingly loyal to the Baltimore Montessori and the administrators, both for the care her staff took in growing our children, but also for the effort she put in helping our previous nanny and other young teachers, grow.

Our children blossomed at the school far beyond what we would have thought that 5-6 year old kids were capable of. In our opinion the teachers and assistants are 100% responsible for turning our kids into polite, independent, inquisitive kids who love to learn new things. They are taught how to accept challenge and how to work in teams and these principles are underscored regardless of whether it is play time or yoga time or they are doing math and reading.
