My daughters came to Tidewater when they were 3 years old 14-15 years ago. I had such an amazing experience with them being a part of the Tidewater family and it significantly enriched not just my children, but the whole family. They were getting so much of what they needed to develop and prosper, that it made our family time even more enjoyable. The environment was kind, nurturing and took every opportunity to enrich my daughters lives. I am thrilled to be back today 2017 with my son who is 5. He has come here after spending 3 years in a church based preschool. It was not as apparent with my daughters that started out here, as it is with my son transitioning from a different school, how this school has the ability to transform children to reach every aspect of their God given abilities. He always seemed happy coming home from preschool, but was tired, emotionally exhaused and generally disengaged with the family until he had time to "regroup". Ever since his first day here, (and it's a much longer day!) he comes home at peace, energized with creativity, filled with positive things to talk about, joyful and generally at ease. It is clear that what is happening here is all of his intellectual, emotional and physical needs are being met at school and this allows him the freedom to enjoy life after school because he is not searching for something that was missing from his day. I have seen this transformation happen in only 10 days of school, I can't wait to see what this year will bring him. I am overjoyed to be back here with this incredible staff of truly gifted people.

If you are looking for a school where your child can feel the joy of learning, Tidewater is the one. My son spent the past three years in Tidewater and he couldn't be happier. He was able to learn how to initiate and lead the learning and enjoy the process of solving the problems at his own level and speed. In Tidewater, the learning is always associated with hands-on activities and the students are encouraged to raise questions and share their ideas. Tidewater students also have many unique opportunities to learn about different cultures and parts of the world, which help them become more respectful toward people around themselves. My son loved learning Spanish, exploring outdoor to learn about the nature, and expressing himself through music (by singing, playing the instruments, dancing waltz with friends!). He has grown as a happy, responsible, and confident child, who is competent both academically and socially, thanks to the school's great Montessori philosophy and very talented and nurturing teachers. To my son and my family, Tidewater will always have a special place in our hearts.

The Tidewater school has allowed our children to foster a real love of learning; as respected members of a community students are able to be curious and learn how to answer their questions, thus becoming critical thinkers. In addition to the curriculum being engaging, creative, and fun, the staff is incredibly supportive and knowledgeable.

When we were deciding to move to the Southern Maryland area from Northern Virginia one of the first things I did was look into preschools for my then 4 year old son. Tidewater's website stood out from the rest and I scheduled a tour to take place before our move. I was immediately impressed with the appearance of the school and the kindness and friendliness of the administration and staff. Our son, now 7, and two of our daughters, 10 and 4, attend the school. When we lived in Northern Virginia our oldest child went to our neighborhood public school. When we moved to Southern Maryland she attended second grade at our assigned public school. Although her academics and behavior at school were stellar, she developed anxieties surrounding the testing, homework, the lunch room, the bud ride, and in class work requirements. These anxieties made her very unhappy for most of her second grade year. These were not anxieties we saw in her when she attended our neighborhood public school in Northern Virginia. We switched her to The Tidewater's School Elementary program for third grade and within the first few months, her anxieties had been reduced significantly. This year is her second year in The Tidewater School's elementary program and she is so happy and anxiety free. In addition, the teachers and administration have been so helpful in helping the elementary children work through and social disagreements that may arise, giving them a foundation for future problem solving. All of my children feel comfortable and at home at The Tidewater School and my 2 year old can not wait to attend.

We couldn't be happier with the Tidewater School. From our first visit, we knew our children belonged there, and this is more apparent each time we visit again, for any school activity. The environment for the children to learn in is so comfortable and well thought out, and the teachers and staff are wonderful. We believe the Tidewater School fits with our family values and is so much more than just a school. It's a community, and a great one.
