Great place to visit, 1st. Washington Monument built. Great views to West, Hagerstown, Potomac river valley in distance, south views u can see Virginia, and points West. Easy walk up from parking area with information signs about
It's history.
Small Park with a short trail that takes you to the Monument. The Monument have a spiral staircase that leads you to a small landing and gorgeous views. You can find hikers in your path since this is part of the Appalachian Trail. The visitor center have a small museum and an attendant. There are some RV spots, grilles and tables for picnic. Plenty of parking space, clean bathrooms and a lot of space for kids to play.
A beautiful park with an absolutely amazing view at the top where the monument is located. The Appalachian Trail runs along the top of the mountain. Has camping for youth as well. The view is worth a trip for sure. Also, along the trail to the monument there are signs recording Washington's history. Wonderful open grass space near parking with a playground, several buildings to have a picnic located along the foot trail to the monument. Pictures are worth a thousand words!
This was an unexpected find for me as I was travelling north on Interstate 81. It was a little out of the way but a welcome detour. I enjoyed the informational plaques about George Washington and was surprised by the view at the end of the short walk. It looked like a great place to camp and enjoy the outdoors.
We walked up to the monument, a fairly short walk with some information about George Washington's life posted along the way. The views from the monument are spectacular and this is a good place to try a piece of the AT.
In other parts of the park there are nice bathroom facilities, a playground, and the visitor center is small but informational. I'd like to come back and try more of the AT.
