My family always enjoys going to Rose Hill Manor. They put on several really life like reenactments. The living history is an excellent learning too. Dont forget to go in the museum. Lots of things for the children to do. Bonus they get to experience a old time school room.
This is a great little gem hidden in the middle of Frederick. It's a great museum about life in revolutionary and pre-civil war Frederick. Its great for kids and has a ton of toys and other items for them to play with.
We went late in the season and got a personal tour since we were the only people there. They also have various events through the summer, which sounded fun, although we didn't get to experience them.
The events here are hit or miss they had a family game time that was lackluster but this event was much better. If you looking to go to an event here then I recommend sticking to the historical events as those are the better of the events. I am not sure why this is but it has been our experience.
The WWII event at Rosehill Manor was really wonderful. The soldiers took young and old visitors on a trip to the past. The UFO show gave us Laurel and Hardy skits, big band singers and entertained everyone. Seeing the old trucks, cars, tents filled with only that era's communication tools made one realize that the lack of computers, cell phones and gadgets still enabled our men and women the ability to put a stop to Hitler.
This is a hidden gem of Maryland history, tucked away in Frederick just off route 15. This was the residence of Maryland's first governor, Thomas Johnson, in his last years, and much of the house is still original with period additions made by subsequent owners. The county park staff was very welcoming and several helped me even though they were running a few different programs for children, which I hadn't known about as I stopped by with a few hours between doctor appointments. Once I was on tour I was given a thorough and engaging tour of the house and grounds which tied together the local and national history of the period. I will be returning to this site soon, and I recommend anyone else who loves history to do the same.
