Lauren Rostek (1st Chair Strings) is a remarkable and accomplished teacher! We've worked with her for more than four years and have had an excellent experience throughout: Our daughter plays cello and plans to continue studying with Lauren through her high school graduation and beyond (she began working with Lauren at the end of elementary school, continued through middle school, and is currently finishing her freshman year of high school). Lauren has a gentle, compassionate, and yet firm way with children, adolescents, and adults; she's grown with us as a family, as our daughter matures. Lauren works to match the intensity level of her students, while still encouraging them to do their best. She also adapts her curricula to each student's needs and interests (e.g., transcription, arrangement, solo pieces, etc.). Moreover, Lauren helps bring out a students' artistry and ability to convey emotion in his or her playing. As a parent, I appreciate very much her flexibility in scheduling; she has a few rules she adheres to strictly but she works with families to be as flexible as possible, allowing for lessons to be rescheduled when and where needed. Finally, she's a pleasure to work with and goes out of her way to support her students' families, as well (she even helped us enormously in purchasing our beloved cello). The recitals she and her family host are lovely gatherings and further enhance her students' capacity for performance (and even burgeoning professionalism) -- plus they're fun, to boot! We cannot recommend her highly enough.
My 9 year old daughter has been taking violin lessons with Lauren for almost two years,. She's exactly what I was looking for in a teacher. Expectations are clear. Lauren is patient and very kind but will also push when it's necessary. She encourages my daughter to challenge herself and do her best. Lauren also has a warm, friendly personality and a great sense of humor. Highly recommend!
Lauren is a wonderful teacher. She always prioritises what the student wants and is very patient. I've learned so much from her and she has always made sure that what I was studying was something that I wanted to be learning. I highly recommend her if you're looking for a strings teacher!
Lauren is a kind, patient, knowledgeable instructor. My son learned so much from her that will continue to enrich his appreciation for music and for the cello in particular. I highly recommend Lauren if you are looking for a string instructor!!
