Dave Gorrie has been a fantastic guitar instructor for my son. He’s learned so much with Dave. We’re grateful to have found an experienced guitar instructor. We would highly recommend him to anyone looking to learn and/or continue guitar.
Dave is a great teacher. He is very patient and instructs the student in the art of the guitar - not just how to run through scales. I've been taking lessons for about a year now and he is very encouraging. Whatever your skill level Dave can challenge you to improve and motivate you to learn.
I have taken guitar lessons on and off over the years with different teachers and decided to start up again a couple of years ago. I chose Dave because of his solid classical training and because of his practical experience as a performing artist in a broad range of styles. He can teach any of these styles and, after working with you on the one you prefer, will branch off into another for a while (if you want) and then return to your style of choice, in this way broadening your understanding of other kinds of music and varying things to maintain your interest.
In the lessons, he helps you choose pieces to play that match your interest and ability, teaches you theory along the way, and lets you move at your own pace while encouraging you to improve.
I'm glad I found Dave and plan to be his student for years to come. I'd recommend him to anyone interested in the guitar.
Dave is the Gandalf of guitars and is an excellent teacher. I am 42 and have taken lessons periodically since I was a teenager. Dave is by far the best teacher that I have ever had. He is patient and has made things fun. He also has a great way of catering his teaching style to my learning style. We have done blues, rock, theory, and are starting jazz now. He brings decades of knowledge to the lesson and can work on any topic with anyone!
Dave has an excellent teaching style, emphasizing guitar techniques and good playing habits. Rock, jazz, blues, finger style or just the basics -- he works patiently with you through each lesson. I have been taking lessons for many years with all kinds of tunes on my acoustic guitar. Dave's great with music theory too!
