    What a beautiful, quiet, and small campsite. It’s really tucked in and hidden behind a trail, which means it can be quiet, but also have a lot of foot traffic. There are no more than 8 sites so be sure to get your spot locked in!
    I LOVE that this is right along the river. It’s also incredibly close to Great Falls, if you want to walk 3.5 miles on the towpath to get there.

    The Swain's Lock campground can make for a great introduction to backpacking for younger kids. It's around 3 miles from Great Falls, where there is vehicle access. Swain's Lock has running water between April and October (refer to C&O Canal website for exact dates; NPS recommends treating water for drinking), a privy, and several campsites with grills. Campsites are on a first come, first served basis. The site also has vehicle access and parking.

    As I relaxed in my tent, the sun had already set, and the humidity began to give way to a cool breeze that brushed the tent's nylon walls, the Potomac moaned on one side, and the canal waterfall splashed softly on the other side, a soothing melody as a symphony of frogs and insects joined in Mother Nature's concert.

    Not to be missed! Check this place out! The porta potti's are super clean.
