(December 1, 2017, 1:59 pm)I came to Doris Mattingly as adult learner seeking to recapture a lifelong desire to play the piano. I am delighted she was willing to take me on as a student. I have probably forgotten most of what I learned as a child and have some new bad habits to overcome. But Doris is patient, encouraging, and has a teaching style that makes one want to do well. She selects music that is fun and interesting for me to play. Even the skills-building exercises are deceptively challenging and not at all elementary. I am learning to appreciate music as lyrical-telling a story, stirring imagination, and communicating beauty and emotion. But, sometimes I am secretly happy that I have just played the notes! The environment in Doris’ home is warm, bright, and inviting and I am welcomed at the door by her sweet golden retriever, Yum Yum, who knows I will bring her a treat. I am living my dream and am so happy to be sharing that with Doris. When she plays a piece for or with me it is clear that she is a master of all she teaches.

(November 19, 2017, 1:50 pm)As an adult, I took piano lessons with Mrs. Mattingly for over 10 years. While getting the notes and rhythm is obviously important, the most wonderful message I gleaned from her was to make my playing "musical," a lesson I have not forgotten. She is patient, funny, practical and kind, and her studio is a whole lot of fun. Highly recommend her for children of all ages!

(November 19, 2017, 11:19 am)Doris Mattingly is simply the best. I returned to piano as an adult, anxious to "recover" the skills from many decades past. Doris has not only taught me better ways of thinking about music and the piano, but makes every lesson a joy. Her home studio is beautiful and inviting, and her patience is remarkable. I have seen the results of her work with children ( who adore her!) and adults at various skill levels. My only regret is that I did not start this sooner!

(November 18, 2017, 12:28 pm)Doris is absolutely wonderful in every way. Not only has she been an amazing piano teacher she has also become a role model and trusted friend for my daughter. I always marvel when my daughter comes out of her piano lesson she is in a great mood and her confidence is uplifted.
Each year our whole family looks forward to the delightful Christmas recital in Doris’ beautiful home studio. The concert is festive and gives the students the opportunity to shine. Being a busy mom with 3 children what I also appreciate is that Doris keeps her recitals to a strict hour. It’s plenty of time for the students to perform, but not so much that it monopolizes a day.
I also can’t finish this review without complimenting Doris on her organization and communication. Her studio is run in the most professional manor.
If you are considering a piano teacher in the area Doris is a star! -

She is a brilliant pianist with exquisite technique that allows the piano to express true emotion. She inspires her students to develop the skills and ardor necessary to become extraordinary musicians.
