  Bigger sized Latin-American Supermarket than Atlantic Supermarket across the street. Used to be Expo E-Mart before MegaMart took over when Expo E Mart filed for bankruptcy in the middle of 2015. Before Expo E-Mart, this space was formerly a Safeway Food & Drug Store. It closed on October 10, 2009 and bas been operating in the Hampshire Langley Shopping Center of Takoma Park, MD in the late 1960's. Much of the interior from the former Safeway Food & Drug store still remains on the store signs, aisle markers, and pharmacy that used to be part of the Safeway Food & Drug Store. Even the cones that are used to prevent people from walking on slippery areas of the store, have Safeway's name on them. The only difference is that Expo E Mart and Mega Mart have replaced the traditional bakery items Safeway would sell in their bakery aisle, such as donuts, brownies, crossiant pastries, muffins, cookies, and cakes with more traditional Latin American desserts such as Pan Dulce, Latin American Cookies, and traditional Latin-American cakes with fruit on top of them. Donuts, brownies, crossiant pastries, muffins, and the traditional cakes Safeway used to bake and sell have no longer been offered/ dicontinued by both of the two Latin-American Supermarkets that have been operating in Safeway's space ever since it closed. Also, there are more foreign food items that both of these Latin American supermarkets have offered that Safewy did not offer such as a wider/ much broader range of food items from India, Indonesia, China, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Korea, Africa, the Middle East, and all over Central, Latin, and South America. These supermarkets still carried the typical cereal, ice cream, waffles, pancake mixes, frozen foods, soda beverages and classic American snacks Safeway used to carry, such as Eggo Waffles, Aunt Jemima Pancakes/Syrup, Pillsbury Pancake Mix, Kusteze Pancake Mix, Nestle Pancake Mix, Pillsbury Crescent Roll Dough, Cheerios Cereal, Cookie Crisp Cereal, Honey Bunches Cereal, Lucky Charms Cereal, Fruity Pebbles Cereal, Cocoa Pebbles Cereal, Cocoa Puffs Cereal, Honey Grahams Cereal, Reeses Puffs Cereal, Fruit Loops Cereal, Quacker Oatmeal Mixes, Stouffer's Frozen Meal Dishes, Marie Calender's Frozen Meal Dishes, Lean Cuisine Frozen Meal Dishes, Kid Cuisine Frozen Meal Dishes, Hungry Man Frozen Meal Dishes, Banquet Meal Dishes, Healthy Choice Frozen Meal Dishes, Amy's Organic Frozen Meal Dishes, Kraft Lunchable Non-Frozen Meals, Breyer's Ice Cream, Edy's Ice Cream, Turkey Hill Ice Cream, Popsicles, Nestle Drumstick Cones, Klondike Ice Cream Bars, Dove Ice Cream Bars, Yo Crunch yogurts, Activia Yogurts, Gogurt Yogurt Tubes, Yoplait Yogurts, La Manta Yogurts, Jello's Jello, Cozy Shack Rice Pudding, Nestle Nesquick Shakes, Welch's Juices, Florida's Natural Orange Juice, Tropicana Orange Juice, Turkey Hill Lemonade, Horizon Organic Chocolate Milk, Oreo Cookies, Ritz Crackers, Wheat Thins, Peppridge Farm Cookies, Scooby Doo cookies, Honey Maid Graham Crackers, Chips Ahoy Cookies, Nutter Butter Cookies, as well as classic American chips like Lays, Pringles, Tostitos tortilla chips/ dips, Doritos, Cheetos, Fritos, and Funyions. These stores still also sold Kraft/ Velveeta Macaroni and Cheese boxes. The only thing, however, is that ever since Safeway closed, the two Latino supermarkets that took over its spot no longer offered the Safeway branded ice-cream this Safeway Food & Drug store used to offer. I believe is Safeway Food & Drug Store has been modernized in 2003.
  I don't know why Mega Mart took over this space but I feel like it has way too many other locations nearby for this store to be effective. The store does offer nice groceries. Bigger selection of icecream, frozen foods, and waffles. Also, pharmacy section from the former Safeway that closed on October 10, 2009 is still there. However, this store is not as nice as Safeway used to be. Safeway has been in this location since I grew up. I deeply miss seeing and going to this Safeway. My family used to go here after eating at Woodland's Indian Restaurant across the street.

  This store has almost everything at an affordable price. The overall staff is very nice, kind and very helpful. When you need assistance, they happily help. Besides, they also have free rides for those who spend $60 or more and do not have a car. Can't beat that!!!
