“Two of our kids needed a professional eye exam (and ultimately pairs of glasses) after failing eye tests at school. I fully expected I'd have to travel 30 minutes or so out of Poolesville to get this taken care of, until I searched my vision care plan's web site for the nearest place that accepted their insurance. I was pleasantly surprised to find Poolesville Vision was right in town, just past the hardware store. (I found out they also have an office in Silver Spring, MD.) I think they did an excellent and thorough job giving the eye tests, so no complaints there. The only reason I can't rate them "excellent" is the mark-up on the glasses/frames. (Quite frankly, you could probably buy 2 pairs of glasses for the price Poolesville Vision will charge you for one pair.) Nonetheless, I went ahead and paid for the glasses here, partially out of a sense of responsibility to shop local and support local business wherever possible. And secondarily, I think for the kids' very first pair of glasses, it's important the fit is right. Some of the discount eye-care places will pretty much sell you anything a kid picks out based purely on looks/styling, without stopping to ensure it's a good match for the shape and size of their head. ”
