The Brown Station Laydown Facility (BSLF)(unclassified), promulgated 1 April 2019

First conceived in 1959 and built between April, 1981 and July, 1982, the Brown Station Laydown Facility (BSLF) is a camouflaged secure bunker in Greater Upper Marlboro, Bowie, Maryland belonging to an unnamed government agency with its own six megawatt nuclear power generating plant, water supply, underground greenhouses and food production facility, air purification and production plant and room enough to provide living and working quarters for all of the personnel assigned to the Granger Project, and their families, should a national or global catastrophe occur or be imminent. The bunker has 2,300,000 square feet of floor space, of which 130,000 square feet is office/laboratory space, 200,000 square feet is living quarters, 730,000 square feet is greenhouses and food production areas, 490,000 square feet is used for power generation, heating, air conditioning and air and water production and purification, approximately 600,000 square feet is storage in different locations and 150,000 square feet is connecting tunnels, recreation areas, dining areas and a small underground park, complete with an artificial sunrise and sunset each day, and a swimming pool.

There is a two hundred eighty five foot tall cooling tower near the site which has been explained to the satisfaction of the local citizenry as a crematorium chimney, which must be located away from most developed urban areas because of the odors wafting therefrom.

The facility is considered by its planners to be capable of sustaining up to 250 individuals in good health and allowing them to survive most natural and man-made catastrophes for up to 20 years, by which time the Granger Project should be finished and the Granger Problem resolved.
Air reconnaissance shows nothing but the electrical switchyard for the power generated by the BSLF Nuclear Power Generating Facility (BSLFNPGF), the three small cooling ponds, the palm trees and a few assorted buildings and vehicles in some cleared areas.

Access to the bunker complex is gained by any of several concealed entrances. One of these entrances is via a hidden panel in a seemingly now-defunct two-bedroom bed and breakfast (humorously also named the Brown Station Laydown by the powers that be) located almost directly across Brown Station Road. The electrical switching yard enables power to be sent to other nearby facilities with a similar purpose, including the Italian Blue Team bunker and the Third- and Seventh-alternate Presidential bunkers. The cooling ponds generate enough heat that they create a microclimate that has enabled a grove of palm trees to thrive in the immediate area for over thirty seven years. On cold winter days it often snows high above the site and and subsequently melts into a soft misty rain, falling downwind of the cooling ponds and usually before reaching the palm tree tops. Staff at the facility, and their families, most of whom reside in the nearby area, are encouraged to take advantage of the pools and localized weather phenomena to enjoy warm, balmy fun, especially during the cooler months of the year. There is no danger of radiation affecting bathers. The reactor is of the J7 Mark III design and does not irradiate the water used to cool it, instead giving it a slight, but harmless, orange blossom fragrance.

Security of the site is performed and maintained by armed patrols, a myriad of sensors and cameras, electrified fences (50,000 Volts), chain link fences, animal electrical shock wires, high-security wood rail fences (as pictured at our web site), lasers, masers, tasers, phasers and drones with Hellfire missiles. A small, well-trained, reaction force is present on site at all times in addition to the regular guard staff.

Also housed at the site are several guard dogs and two pairs of specially trained guard eagles, one of which usually accompanies the armed patrols overhead during the day and three pairs of owls for nighttime duty. Eagles and owls have been chosen because they seem to have a real talon for the job.
