Very good fishing spot.
You can hike, fish along the river or at one of the three ponds. The ponds have largemouth bass, sunfish, bluegill, crappie and during the spring and fall the MD DNR stock the pond with trout. There is a landing area to put kayaks/canoes in the river. Visit the website to obtain the combo number so you can drive to the landing area.
I started visiting Governor Bridge about 6 years ago and heartily recommend it for birders. In my experience it's especially good for Spring and Fall Warblers, not so good in the Winter. I live in Annapolis, and it's my go-to place for Cuckoos (Both), and Scarlet Tanagers. Fox Sparrows are abundant at times, and the lake hosts Osprey and Wood Ducks. I'm also fond of macro photography and Governor Bridge has a good variety of insects and flora.
Great little park. Plenty of parking several trials. Some well defined trails, a couple rough "animal trail" trails. Several nice water views. Could spend a couple hours exploring the various trails.
Governor Bridge Natural Area and Canoe Launch is located near the Bowie Baysox Stadium and Governor's Bridge. At one time, the property was an active sand and gravel mining operation. Abandoned in the 1960's and the land was neglected for years.

Posted on June 24, 2014 by Hugh. I met Graeme this morning at Governor Bridge, and we spent several hours looking for bugs. He's really good at spotting them. I experimented with the zoom lens and tried to improve my lighting technique, which still needs some work.
