“Essentially the ONLY pulmonologist in Southern Maryland...and this is coming from pretty much every specialist I've taken my mother to . Her former pulmonologist is at Johns Hopkins and that was getting too far regarding her Stage 4 COPD/Emphysema. When cardiologists, endocrinologists, and every other specialist you talk to say there are only 2 pulmonologists in Southern Maryland and Dr Pirouz would be the best...then that's saying something. One cardiologist even told me that he wouldn't take his cat to see the 'other' pulmonologist that is based in St. Mary's county. Dr. Pirouz is new but he's totally up to date on the latest in COPD medicines, techniques, therapies, and has an excellent bedside manner. He's young, energetic, but also empathetic and well experienced in the field. He also doubles as one of the Chiefs of ICU at Calvert. He helped my 77 yr old mother understand her COPD better, put her on a new medicine which seems to be helping, and he even called her one evening a few days after she started the medicine to see how she was doing. You don't hear of dr's making evening calls anymore... I would highly recommend giving Dr. Pirouz a try if you are looking for a more local pulmonologist.”
