Communication is a 2 way street. Senders and receivers. To us- the employees seem to lack empathy and concern, because they don’t have answers, won’t try to find them, are frustrated with our irrational emotional reactions to THEIR response... We aren’t receptive to the minimalist response they give- justifiably so- when our families are about to be homeless or are hungry and the SSA rep says “ You’ll just have to wait.” No offer of resources. No apology (even if empty). Nothing. Just “You'll have to wait” Nope. I can say for myself anyway- that I am not receptive to anything they have to say, once the attitude and irritation I feel from them is apparent. I am sure they’re the same- not receptive to our communication messages being sent when we’re emotional. We have to put ourselves in someone else’s shoes in order to communicate and work effectively together. That’s not going to happen here. Be aware of the situations at hand- is Monday’s are busiest, do you think the information will actually have changed if you call again today?? Realize where you stand before you call, go online, or address the employees. If you know what to expect, you won’t be disappointed.”
