The House of Seven Gables is not only a fun place to visit, it is representative of a true historical gem. It’s very architecture speaks of literary, biographical, and cultural values that inform the early history of colonial America and the special role Salem plays its Puritan and literary origins. The staff is welcoming, they are skilled guides, and they genuinely know their history. This is one of the great destinations in New England, and the subtle significance of its story is enthralling.
Very fun experience and lots of interesting historical facts. Both me and my husband enjoyed the guided tour. At the end you are able to do your own self guided tour which was also fun. The houses are well kept.
Nice stop! If you’re interested in Nathaniel Hawthorne and seven gables history! Honestly, pretty cool to visit even if you have no idea about the history (or the book). Our tour guide was great and answered all of our questions thoroughly.
If you're a history lover then you'll like this place. This is the house that inspired the book The House of the Seven Gables by Nathaniel Hawthorne and some of H.P. Lovecraft's works as well.
The house itself is pretty neat. It was built in 1667 I believe, and the additions were added on gradually as the home owners received more money. It has lots of nooks and crannies, fake doors, hidden stair cases and the such. So it was pretty interesting to walk through. The tour guide was knowledgeable but could use a little variety in the tone of his voice as he spoke. Other than that he was friendly.
Where do I begin? My friend and I went to tour Seven Gables this past Tuesday for the 10:50 am tour with Michael. He was absolutely fantastic! So genuine, friendly, personable, and an expert on the Seven Gables and its history! I’ve got to say this was the best tour and tour guide I have ever had. This was our favorite part of our trip in Salem! I recommend that anyone who visits or lives near Salem to visit here at least once! And a big thanks and appreciation to our tour guide, Michael! I could not recommend this enough!
