Dr. Deraska is a great doctor, but expect a 90 minute or more long wait.
A month ago, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Disease, an emotionally exhaustive time marked by many hours on the internet doing research for better answers than most Western doctors seem to be able to provide. Fast forward to finding Dr. Donald Deraska, whom I am so happy I met. Recently, I saw him for our first appointment and I have never had a doctor of any kind take such care and attention to detail. He is worth any wait that you may experience. I was the last appointment of the day and he was only 15 or 20 min late taking me into his office, spending an inordinate amount of time with me (probably much to the dismay of his wonderful reception staff!!). Another thing that is so valuable about Dr. Deraska’s care is that he treats the symptoms, not only your TSH levels. So even if my thyroid levels are “subclinical,” if you are feeling poorly, then he resolves to get you lower. In that way and many others, he is much more open-minded than most Western medicine doctors. The man – bless his heart – answered every single question that I had and took the time to educate me. He promotes working on eliminating gluten and he is open to prescribing T3 (both synthetic & NDT, unless you are pregnant or trying to conceive). He also looks at your B12 levels for possible issues. He does not prescribe LDN (not that I was interested) but he is happy to work with you and monitor you if you get it from someone else. When I called his office for the initial 1st time appt, he was booked 2-3 months out but after a week or so of daily calling, I was able to get a spot straightaway. Also, he will literally ask you for every medication/vitamin/supplement you are taking including brand, dosage, and how often so do yourself a favor (and probably him) and come prepared with that! Lastly, I have CIGNA and he takes this. I feel much more comfortable with this diagnosis now knowing that I have him to guide me through it…he is a major player now on my journey back to optimal health!
Dr. Deraska provides individualized quality care. He is very thorough and collaborative. He focuses on your optimal health. You may need to wait but in my opinion the information he provides is well worth it. Staff is very friendly.
I just had my first visit with Dr. Deraska. He was very thorough and was great to work with. Most impressive to me was the respect for the patient's time. For the first time ever, I received a call just a few hours prior to my appointment letting me know he was running behind, asking if I could come in 45 minutes late. I was shocked and impressed! Since when does a doctor's office care so much about the patient's time?! So rather than leaving me to wait for 45 minutes in the waiting room, they actually called me ahead, I came late, and was taken in right when they said I would be. Good customer service is rare so I was very appreciative.
Dr Deraska is, quite simply, the finest endocrinologist I've ever had. He's helped me to get my blood glucose under control, which is a miracle in and of itself.
His office waits can run a little long, but only because he gives each of his patients his complete and unhurried attention - which I greatly appreciate. I NEVER feel rushed out the door. This man is a real find!
