We found Elyse right before March 13th. We have never had the chance to meet her in person but asked to do so virtually. My son is a performer and has been to three previous therapists that worked with him and claimed his speech was fixed. He was not...not remotely. I found a review from a performer that said she helped transform him; I wanted to know more. My son had a lisp and facial distortion with his r's. This problem would limit him from seeking his dreams of performing. Elyse met him and felt she would give the virtual option a try; After meeting him, Elyse felt he was motivated and dedicated. I told her he was highly skeptical because of his past. My son believed he was beyond help, but there was something about Elyse that intrigued him.
My son had applied for a summer program and got a scathing rejection. It pointed at his speech and was most unkind and unprofessional...but it put my son into action. The summer program could not see potential through the speech issue and did not want to work with him (they were awful). Before this, he has been very successful and performed professionally but was warned by professionals in the industry that as he grew into adulthood, his speech would stand in his way. He thought about abandoning his dream but reluctantly said he would give it one more try.
Elyse has transformed him. It was not an overnight success. My son used his time in isolation to work on his speech for five months. He is currently in the phase of making his changes a habit. It is remarkable how much he has changed in 5 months of dedicated work (he is 17). Her mix of expertise, honesty, care, and motivation reached him. Through her, he learned that his problem was fixable with hard work and proper guidance. Good enough was not good enough for Elyse.
We will be forever thankful for her guidance. Whoever thought my son would finally get the guidance he needed through virtual means! It is not the delivery; it is the person. We finally struck gold with Elyse.
An actor having a speech impediment is not the best idea. I decided to continue acting and ignore my speech impediment. I go to an arts high school and this past year my acting teacher told me that it was time I went to speech therapy. I have not met many high school students going to speech therapy so I thought how would I ever do this?
Yet, one recommendation later I was headed to Elyse to fix my "r's." Little did I know it was my whole tongue that was the problem. Elyse gave me exercises to gain a stronger tongue so I could speak the right way and have better diction overall.
Elyse not only understood that as an actor I needed good diction she taught me the difference between on and off stage diction. She kept saying to me "we're going get this done." And we did exactly that. I started in February and was done by April. She inspired me to work hard at removing my impediment. Not only does Elyse still correct my speech she is a supportive, kind, passionate person that continues to inspire me.

Elyse worked with my 2 girls starting at age 5 for my younger daughter and 9 for my eldest. By focusing on their unique issues around auditory processing she was able to make them both successful students and was instrumental in directing the school system to provide the necessary support during the school day. Elyse worked with my son, Ian, from the age of 4 until he was 6 and she was nothing short of a miracle worker. Ian had been with another speech therapist for a year with little progress - in just one session my son was able to say a hard "G" which he had not been able to do before. Elyse is loving and fun and my son responded to her requests with enthusiasm and success. Elyse reassured this anxious mom and gave me tips to continue my son's progress outside of sessions. She is simply put, the best speech pathologist out there.
Elyse has worked miracles with my daughter. After trying several therapists along with getting speech therapy three times a week at school, at age 9 my daughter was still unintelligible. At age 16, she is performing on stage! There was a direct correlation with her speech ability and her confidence and she really has blossomed. Elyse is passionate about what she does and customizes her approach to each child to make it interesting for them and to get the most out of each session. She is worth every penny.
