Unfortunately, both of our dogs needed emergency care within a few weeks of each other. Both times we were seen right away and the staff took great care.
On the first visit our dog had bloat and torsion and we made the difficult decision of peace. The doctor was very honest but caring through our discussion. Our visit pre-procedure was very calm and when the doctor came in to help put her to rest, it was very peaceful and quick. The staff at the reception were very kind.
On the second visit with our second dog, he had internal bleeding, probably from cancer. The vet was so sweet and caring as she listened to everything that happened that caused our concern. She explained our options thoroughly and was very sympathetic to us. Again we were given as much time as needed with him before our procedure. When it came time, the doctor explained everything that would happen and was wonderful throughout the entire experience.
While the costs are high, emergencies happen and it's nice to have such a supportive and empathetic staff that do care about both pets and people.

We lost our beloved 14.5 year old dog a couple weeks ago. She passed on our deck before we were able to take her to hospital. We took her body to Tuft’s that night. They were very sympathetic and attentive to our feelings that night. We chose to have her cremated. Picking her up was so hard. But well worth the money. She is Back home where she belongs

These folks couldn't have more helpful and understanding. In the middle of a trip we needed attention to our dog who was having bad reactions to his anti-anxiety drugs. We were hours from home and these folks were attentive, quick and got us on our way with a comforting diagnosis and plan.
We'd come back if we lived any whee closer and needed emergency care. Thanks Jenna, Dorie, Jonathan and the rest.

If there were an extra star, I would give it. This is THE BEST referral and emergency hospital in New England for animal care. I drive 2+ hours for routine and emergency care because it is THE BEST.

As a four dog owner, I have been through my share of referral hospitals. Most of them are money making machines for their owners, typically veterinarian groups. Tufts/Foster is different. Care comes first. They are a teaching hospital and they objective is not money.

The specialists on staff are exceptional, among the best in New England. And they are really there, to see you in an emergency. My dog had a porcupine quill in the ball of her eye (very rare). I called ahead. When I arrived, an ophthalmologist was waiting. The fee for treatment was very reasonable, a fraction of what private (for profit) referral hospitals charge. The staff at Tufts saved my dog's eye.

The caring and empathetic attitude extends to every member of staff I have encountered. Another dog is a regular patient of the cardiology group. They have extended his life a year and counting.

Selecting an emergency hospital is hard. It is an emergency, right? It is worth the extra drive to get to Tufts/Foster. I know this from hard experience. Everything about this emergency/referral hospital is exceptional.

My family has brought our dog to Tufts 3 times in the four years we have had her. One time she spent a week in the ICU and the other two times were for spine surgery. All staff we dealt with went above and beyond to care for our dog and to accommodate us. The care animals get here is better than humans can expect at most hospitals. This is such an amazing place and everyone who work here are angels. I can not thank this place enough for what they have done for my dog and my family.
