  Holy smokes this place is amazing! Beyond exceeded my expectations! You can tell the owner is passionate about his business - I am gluten free and had the empress shrimp - the dish was heavenly. My non gluten free husband had the orange beef which he loved as well! We will be back very soon! By far the best Chinese restaurant we have found in Michigan!

  My boyfriend enjoyed the empress chicken, he got it in mild. I found it to taste a little more like barbecue sauce smothered chicken. I ordered the lettuce wraps which were okay, the sauce was like a Concorde jelly? They use items most places usually wouldn’t throw in a lettuce wrap. I will return again and try something different, perhaps a different dish will persuade me to go 5 stars?

  The staff was friendly and our waiter appeared to be waiting on the whole restaurant which took away from the experience. The food is two steps above bland, the Hunan medium could have been a tad hotter. The restaurant demographics appears to appeal to the elderly and maybe that’s why the food is prepared with less seasoning/ flavoring. Not to take anything away from the experience, I do believe COVID has a lot to do with them having a short staff. We were seated next to the aquarium, and while waiting on our entrees we enjoyed being entertained by the fish.

  Been living outside of Michigan for the past 27 years. Returned home and decided to visit an old lunch haunt from my working days. Was pleased to return to New Mandarin Garden for an early dinner and was not disappointed. Same ownership, updated pleasant atmosphere, and memorable tasty dishes. Definitely worth some return visits to check off my favorites.
