“We found Bickford on Blondo to be a excellent care facility for my mother who has beginning dementia. The staff is trained monthly on how to handle such behaviors and the care ratio is small enough for frequent checking on clients. The experience before this was different because we had to discover what we were looking for based on service needs and resources available. It started at Methodist hospital in Omaha. They did a very good job and had diagnosed beginning Dementia as part of the whole evaluation process which we were not concerned because of other physical issues at the time. We picked Brookstone Village as her rehab facility which has assisted living and memory care . It is a beautiful facility , the care seemed very good but my mom did not like it there mainly because she was sharing a room which was the only one available at the time. She complained about the food, being handled roughly by staff and did not participate in events. THE FACT IS HER DEMENTIA WAS GETTING WORST. They concentrated on the physical rehab process which was very helpful but not the right setting. We had heard about Westgate Senior living which had received very high ratings. In her initial interview she did fine and we felt it would work. The staff their is friendly and cooperative. Unfortunately things got worst and their staff ratio and resources for dementia are not what mom needed so we moved out after a month. We looked at Angel Touch, Edgewood, and Bickford all wonderful places. We decided on Bickford based on my mom's particular needs and personality.The solution included low patient to attendant staff ratio, private living quarters apartments, and professional staff training to deal with changing behavior now and in the future. So far she is happy and we are too knowing she will be cared for when we cannot be with her.”
