A really fun hike to see petroglyphs.
Lizards, hummingbirds, petroglyphs. All these trails that run up arroyos have soft gravel surfaces and are a lot harder than the mileage suggests. So don't skimp on the water!
Thoroughly enjoyed my trek through the 201 trail with Ranger Jim. Learned lots of new stuff. Easy to get to and friendly staff. Two, no three things, which keep me from giving it 5+ stars. 1. Be prepared for a long slog through loose and rolling sand/rocks. I had on good shoes, but my feet and knees were screaming by the time we returned to the trail head. 2. There are a few dried waterfall spots to climb up/down. They're no problem for a confidant medium to advance hiker, but as a beginner I found them intimating. Ranger Jim to the rescue! He literally held my hand until my feet were on level ground again. Enjoyable and educational experience.
Hiked this today on a Monday morning and only met 2 other people on Trail 100 to the petroglyphs area. So many beautiful pieces of ancient art to explore. Fun to try to figure out the meanings. Trail is mostly loose rock with some scrambling. Quiet and lots of wide open spaces. Saw a small tarantella. Ranger Mark was very helpful inside the Visitor Center. Maps available as well as Restrooms during open hours. Gate will be closed when Park is not open. Close to south Henderson area.
Note: If you want to add more distance and elevation variation to your hike, take Trail 200 to Trail 100 loop. About 5 Miles.
Road is good now and plenty of snow up here for a snowman ☃️ ️ Friends of Sloan Canyon @roadup @ronredstone @snconservancy @ Sloan Canyon Visitor Contact Station +2 Marc Sanchez Photography added a new photo — at Sloan Canyon Visitor Contact Station .
