“I would love to reach out to a supervisor because the staff I dealt with on my surgery date were terrific and deserve recognition. The woman doing my intake could tell I was nervous, so she made pleasant small chat to put me at ease. My pre-op nurse Iris was friendly and also handled my anxiety well. The women in OR 1 that morning were fantastic. They actually talked to me while getting me set up, which was nice. My first knee surgery nobody in the OR talked to me which made it feel impersonal and cold. These women were friendly and bright, and talked to me all the way up until I was put under, no count down to stress me out. My post-op recovery nurse Harriet was fantastic. I came out of anesthesia crying, and she comforted me. While on her watch I had to use the facilities and also got sick, both of which would normally make me very embarrassed to do in front of someone. But she was so nice, nonjudgmental, and helped me every step of the way. Her kind light hearted demeanor put me at ease and made me feel safe when I was feeling vulnerable. The woman who switched off with Harriet, whose name I unfortunately do not remember because I was out of it and anxious to get home, was very knowledgeable and informed my mother in very exact detail of my post op care so there would be no questions later. Overall these women I encountered made a very scary situation for me feel much less daunting, and I truly thank them for that.”
