AIT at Fort Monmouth, August to Mid December 1968. MOS 26L10. One of only 2 draftees in the class. Company was the first barracks coming in the front gate. Lived off post, at the corner of Broad & Main, just outside the fence. Got to Viet Nam and never so much as touched the equipment I trained on. My time at the Fort better than I ever expected.
I was stationed here in 1968 for seven months. "Still Photo Lab Specialist" mos-84g20. Had a great time. It was like being on a college campus for me. First time experiencing NYC and Asbury Park. Being from rural Tennessee, this was quite a place. Great instructors too. Wish I could remember names. I was the last one in my class to get my orders. Hawaii.
Was stationed there Feb 66 to Oct 66 for 32c20 school and 32d20 school. Later again for Advanced NCOES Mar 75 - Jun 75. Terrific Fort. Could not believe they had an Olympic size inside swimming pool. Most of the soldiers were pretty bright - - had to be to get through the courses. A real shame that it was closed down.
i was stationed at ft. monmouth in 1969. i went to photo school there. still and motion picture photography . i was in "n" company. we stayed in old, old, old wood framed barracks. i'm sure they were original.
I was stationed there in Sept. 68 to may 69 before going to
Thailand had good times and bad times at Fort Monmouth. I was robbed in front of the movie theater. I am still mad about it but I did not get shot. I really enjoyed the army. I would do it again.
