This place has a fantastic atmosphere - a perfect mix of a competitive spirit and an indeed family environment. Want to see your kid learn from a real professional MMA fighter? Want to challenge yourself and try BJJ? This academy is an excellent choice for you and your kids. I highly recommend - pure joy and excitement in my kids' eyes after every training session worth the price of admission.
After searching for about a year for a martial arts program that is "best suited" for my now six year old twins? DRBJJ is the program I chose for my kids. Unlike the usual "Tae Kwon Do - McDojo" stuff that is ubiquitous in Monmouth County that I explored? This is the real deal. The first thing I found truly amazing about this school is how laid back and totally approachable Professor Rivera (and all of the teaching staff I have encountered) truly are. Dante is a "regular guy who just happens to be one of the best BJJ/MMA practitioners in the world" & he personally comes by and says "hello" to each and every child at each and every class. Despite class sizes being large? There are usually at least three (3) instructors for the kids with dan ranks. After a inclusive stretch and warm up session? The kids are broken up into halves or thirds to work with other kids at their level under the tutelage of an instructor. So the kids gets to "learn at their own pace" and repeat techniques until they becomes rote. There is a mesmerizing team spirit that is palpable in this place and is one of the biggest reasons I chose this dojo for my kids. The "we are all team mates, we all help each other" feel is easily seen. Even with the young kids. My daughter was paired up with a young girl who was a year older and who had about a year's experience as her training partner. This other young girl was patient, helpful and totally accepting in having to work most of her night with an inexperienced kid like my daughter. So BJJ technique notwithstanding? The building of character, fair play and team work instilled in the kids at DRBJJ from Dante personally all the way down is as important IMHO as the actual techniques the kids learn. This is the most well rounded martial arts school I have come across in Monmouth County and I checked out four (4) others. I don't know if you will find a better martial arts program for your kids in Monmouth Country but I do know you could surely and easily do much worse. So I am giving DRBJJ a full five stars and would recommend this school to anyone of any age looking for a well rounded place to learn BJJ and "people/life skills."
I'm a beginner in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and went to the Dante Rivera Academy twice while visiting family in Jersey... It was a great experience. The instructors were great about giving some individual help when showing me the new submissions, and the students that I worked with were really helpful also. I would highly recommend checking out this academy for yourself if you are thinking about taking up BJJ.
Very impressed with this gym. It absolutely has what you're looking for. Many people start training BJJ to compete; others would rather just get in great shape and build confidence in a team that feels like a family. Dante and his coaches/professors are professional whether you're there getting ready for an MMA fight or getting ready for your first class. Do yourself a favor and join up.
Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to meet my nephew, giving him your autograph and inviting him to your gym. We had a really awesome time and look forward to watching your competitors again they were really awesome. This event made my eldest son want to join MMA and be part of such a great experience.
