Beautiful and clean. Very nice for a walk in the evening.
Very natural River valley with multiple habitat types. The straight trail along the old rail line, from the Bethlehem Hermitage on Pleasant Hill road to Ironia road, is in good shape, as are the trails around the Chester Furnace historic area. Other trails in the area are blocked by down trees or water and are not well maintained.
This trail goes through the Black River Wildlife Management area along streambeds and forest. Equestrians must have a NJ Wildlife Permit, which is available from NJ DEP for a fee. The trail follows the right-of-way of the former Chester Branch of the Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western Railroad...
The Black River Wildlife Management Area is located in Chester Township, New Jersey, United States. This WMA is over 3,000 acres (12 km2) and includes diverse landscape with plentiful flora and fauna. The WMA is named for the Black River, which passes through the area.

The Black River Wildlife Management Area Trail is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors.
