Very good lake with a lot of activity (fish) but you need waders to get to them. As far as the surroundings are concerned, there are benches and grills that look like folks have been using as fire pits.

Straightforward little fishing spot with a creek leading off of it. Good for photos or a no frills picnic.

Lake Ames Park | New York-New Jersey Trail Conference

Purchased by Rockaway Township for nearly $1 million in 1979, this park has picnic and playground facilities, a pavilion and opportunities for short walks. You can also investigate the three or four openings of the Denmark Mine. Although a quantity of ore was removed from some of them, the material contained large amounts of pyrite and was never mined.
