  The Dean’ teaching style is so active which makes my son focused throughout the class. He coaches each child while they are playing. The classroom setting is cozy and everything is around chess topic, which is attractive to kids.

  What a great place we became part of almost 3 years ago! Having never played chess as a child, both of my sons are now learning, playing and competing. Dean and Ruth run a close-knit, engaging and supportive school teaching the kids strategies of the game as well as how to win (& lose gracefully) and sportsmanship in general. Highly recommend and happy to have found this!

  Our family highly recommends Dean of Chess Academy and Dean, one of the best chess coaches in the US. Dean of Chess Academy is a great place to help the younger ones to keep up in chess in a peer environment, such as various classes, league nights and quads/scholastic tournaments, as well as the amazing summer camp! Also Dean of Chess is a nice place for local chess players to drop by in the league nights to connect and play, as we frequently see adults play in the league, which also give the younger players an extended exposure playing chess. All activities are so well organized and staff there are extremely friendly - they do take time discussing with you on your child’s chess development.
  
  What worth mentioning is once the child advances to a relatively higher level and/or being more serious about chess, private coaching opportunity is also available. Our son took Dean’s group classes till around 1200 and then started private lessons. Dean prepares every private lesson with personalized plan and coaches to the target. Comparing to unprepared coaches spending hours to learn little, having Dean’s efficient coaching is really a delight. My son’s USCF rating boosted by 300 points within 3 months after the private lessons. Dean also encourages our son to have more independent study and thinking, which is beneficial not only to chess studies, but also to his school work.
  
  We feel truly lucky having Dean of Chess Academy in the community and have been very happy with Dean's support to our son's development in chess.

  As a novice, my son Samuel started his first chess lesson at Dean's evening group lessons back in March 2017. He enjoyed Dean's lecture and learned a lot. Besides taking group lessons, Samuel also played weekday leagues & weekend tournaments at Dean's club. By doing so, Samuel improved quickly not only in his chess skill but also his USCF ratings. As Samuel becomes better and more serious on chess, we started taking private lessons with Dean regularly. Under Dean's coaching, Samuel continues to enjoy chess and improves quickly. By May this year, Samuel is already a solid USCF 1800 level player!
  
  Dean is a very experienced coach. He is very friendly and easy to communicate with. He is clear, effective, and patient during the lessons. We are fortunate to have met Dean when Samuel needs a mentor to teach him in all aspects of the chess. We highly recommend Dean, one of the best coaches in NJ & USA, to you!

  Excellent staff and instructors. My children have learned so much from the motivated teachers and exciting lessons. Looking forward to continued educational chess classes and well run competitive events
