Passed it on the way on Applachian trail on 12/15/2018 - beautiful panamoric views - good place to take a breather too!
This spot is known in the birding community as Raccoon Ridge. In addition to offering spectacular views of the Delaware River and Kittatinny Ridge, this a great place to see dozens, sometimes hundreds, of hawks and eagles on their fall migration.
My 1987/88 attempt at a Hadrian's Wall against Raccoon's NW winds has turned into a mere pile of rocks. It just goes to show that given time and chunks of geology, people will put them on top of one another.
Perfect hiking destination! Spectacular views to both north west and south east.
The "Pile of Rocks" ( the foundation of a bygone fire tower) is like a comfy couch to rest on and chow down
Absolutely beautiful place to stop on the Appalachian Trail. Hawks flying around everything, amazing views, and the comfiest spot for miles. Definitely recommend stopping here for lunch and a bathroom break.
