George Sam Wang, M.D., from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, and colleagues conducted an observational surveillance study using the Researched Abuse, Diversion, and Addiction-Related Surveillance System Poison Center Program.
The patient had idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, and a previous splenectomy had failed to correct the low platelet count. The presence of an accessory spleen was confirmed at laparotomy. (Courtesy of Sam Wang, M.D.)
