Stephen was very friendly, helpful and kind, giving me an appraisal of my older violin from my youth. It is a 3rd or 4th generation hand down to me. I highly recommend him and his string shop. ❤️🌻❤️
This was my first experience at Shaker Violin. Steve was exceedingly generous and helpful and repaired my father’s cello. It was immediately obvious that Steve is very passionate about his work and took time to explain the reason he picked a certain method and tools for the repair to be done. As a bonus Steve took interest in a possible fix for cracks in my classical guitar and invited my to bring the instrument over. After assessing the nature of the crack I agreed with his suggestion to stabilize the crack. Needless to say I highly recommend Steve for any violin/cello repair. He far exceeded my expectations! Thank you again Steve.
I am totally in awe as far as what Steve did for my Juzek upright bass! I received it from a friend years ago the neck had broken off, needed new strings and a bridge. A "local" professional, who shall not be named, put it back together, at a huge price.
Well, we had a "cat" incident a couple weeks ago, and it was knocked off the stand. Again, the neck came off. I had heard about Steve, and brought it over to him. It's like a new bass now! Neck hot-glued on, bridge carved professionally. New endpin, fingerboard shaved properly, bridge set where it should be. Unbelievable, it sounds and plays better than it ever did! All for under $200!! Steve does this as a labor of love, please support him with any of your violin, viola, cello or bass repairs. And he filled in the various cracks, polished it, doesn't even look like the same bass.
What a wonderful, friendly luthier!!
Very highly recommended! I brought in an old violin that had been stored in an attic for 50+ years. It was in rough shape , and Stephen restored it to beautiful playing condition. Very high level of craftsmanship and pride in his work, which is very rare nowadays. He took the time to explain everything about the necessary repairs and share his knowledge. The repair price was very reasonable and the work finished quickly. Thanks so much!
Steve is a Luthier's Luthier!
He repaired & repaired my bow, thoroughly cleaned my Fiddle inside & out, and replaced the bridge: All for a very, very reasonable price. His shop is like a movie set for Stradivari's shop in Cremona, chock full of viols of all breeds and many well utilized old style tools along with modern conventions, and looking out over the scenic Mohawk River. A wonderful experience ... highly recommended!
