It took 2.5 years for them to give me an appearance date after I got a speeding ticket. I went in and asked the prosecutor to dismiss my case since I have the right to a speedy trial. He seemed a little hesitant until I brought up case law and how the right to a speedy trial applies to traffic infractions, then he immediately dismissed my case. Know your rights, people!

I went into my appearance date with a lot of skepticism. I saw how poorly this court had been reviewed. I also pleaded guilty to an inspection sticker. With which I was rewarded the maximum fine of 200$. That didn’t include the courts surcharge. Needless to say I was extremely pessimistic walking into the court room. However I was pleasantly surprised with how I was greeted. Everyone from the court officer to the women at the clerks desk if that’s what it’s called were extraordinarily pleasant. You’ll have to forgive my lack of court terminology, I don’t spend much time there surprisingly enough lol. I was offered a plea bargain prior to going in. It may have been because I had a clean dmv record. I graciously accepted the bargain it knocked my potential five points down to two. I can also address a recurring issue I see for a lot of people. In addition to having to go in for the laundry list, given to me by a very unprofessional officer. With whom I’m extraordinarily displeased, and half tempted to name drop. I also had to deal with a ticket from three years ago. It was a 74 in a 55. Meaning a potential four point ticket. I explained to the Da that I had received it by the speed trap where the twin bridges are. The Da was very familiar with that particular speed trap. The Da that I dealt with was very knowledgeable, and understanding of my lack of knowledge. He made sure to answer all my questions. He also explained that they added the old ticket to get it sorted out along with my laundry list. He was the younger of the two Da’s that were there. After watching the proceedings I could tell he was the one you wanted. Not that the other was bad by any means, he was still reducing almost everyone’s tickets. He was just old school, and very much by the book. While the other Da was willing to hear your story. Long story short if you have a bad experience with a police officer don’t blame the court. Go into any court scenario with honor, and integrity. I swear the court will see that. I’m still waiting on the judges fines. The Da told me it will take about three weeks. I want to encourage anyone else who had a good experience to write it down. At the end of the day I usually pass up writing good reviews. I encourage anyone else who had a bad experience to do the same. That’s the beauty of reviews they give you insight as to what to expect.
