I’ve been a member of Aikido of South Brooklyn since its inception and have only had positive experiences. It’s not only an amazing place to train but a space where you can find a community like no other. Josh Sensei has fostered a space where everyone learns and teaches one another in a caring and collaborative environment.

I am so grateful to Aikido of South Brooklyn for the training I've received these past 7 years. Josh Paul Sensei is a gifted and generous instructor, who's skill is matched only by his enthusiasm for sharing the art with others. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced aikidoka, AOSB is a good place to spend your time.

I’ve been training in Aikido since the age of 6 (I’m 21 now), particularly under the guidance of Sensei Josh Paul. With 15 years under my belt (pun intended), I transitioned from the youth program to the teens and lastly, the adult program at the age of 13. Because of the confidence that Sensei Josh had in me, I was able to obtain my first dan at the age of 16 after training diligently for 8— 9 years prior. The last 15 years on the mat have been a journey of self— discovery, empowerment and growth. As a part of AOSB, the instructors and students alike are both supportive in my training and my life off the mats as a nursing student, entertain my youthful energy and have become a second family to me. Through training at AOSB, I have been given various opportunities to cultivate my skills as an Aikidoka and have met so many amazing people on the way!

As anyone who has ever tried anything new and out of their comfort zone, you’ll experience growing pains. Many times, I have found myself doubting my abilities or scared to tried a new technique; yet, Sensei Josh Paul was able to create an environment where self— doubt becomes confidence and fear evolves into excitement. No longer did I shy away from being called upon for demonstration at the seminars (both local and domestic), but rather I jumped at every chance to offer myself up as uke. After some time, Sensei Josh allowed me to teach youth and adult classes throughout the school year. As a teacher’s assistant for both the youth and adult classes, I grew into the role of Sempai and am so grateful to be a part of the growth of my fellow Aikidoka.

I highly recommend this warm, welcoming and supportive team at AOSB. It is not only a place full of great people, but full of truly gifted instructors and students who want to see you succeed and grow in the art of Aikido.

I've been training here for roughly six years, and with any luck, I won't be stopping anytime soon. The instructors are unpretentious and understanding, there are plenty of opportunities to ask questions, and the martial art they teach is as fascinating as it is layered. Regardless of whether you're a beginner or an expert, I firmly believe there's something to be gained from studying here.

I've been training here for three years now, and I can't say enough good things about the art, the instructors, and the members of our dojo. From day one, everyone has been friendly, helpful and eager to make all students feel right at home. Aikido is an incredibly fun, challenging and interesting experience, and Aikido of South Brooklyn is a great place to experience it.
