“Dr. Gittelson is a unique and extraordinary medical professional: He actually cares so much about his patients that he goes out of his way to make sure they're extremely comfortable, that his work is performed meticulously (and backed up with MRIs and other tests before deemed necessary), and that any other doctors working with his patients know all the details of his work (and how to care for the patients as a result). When my pre-teen daughter was about to begin orthodontic treatment (i.e., a palate expander) at a popular orthodontic practice, Dr. Gittleson took one look at her and told me her lower jaw was growing asymmetrically, and that she should get an MRI so we could get a precise view of it; when we did (with Dr. Gittleson accompanying my daughter through every moment of the potentially-nerve-wracking test to make sure that she was calm, and that it was done correctly), we discovered that he was correct, and that my child's jaw joint was locking and not translating properly, thus affecting proper growth. Dr. GIttleson spoke to her orthodontist, who claimed this wasn't a significant issue, and wanted to ignore it (stating that any problems could be addressed when my daughter was older--with surgery!). But thanks to Dr. Gittleson, and his persistence, as well as his expert knowledge, an appliance was created for my daughter to wear that eventually moved her lower jaw 3mm, initiated growth, and ultimately generated the proper movement her jaw had lacked. Because of Dr. Gittleson, my daughter has proper symmetry to her face, an appropriate bite, no more headaches (that the jaw joint lock had been causing), and most of all--no reason for surgery in her later years. Both of us are so grateful for Dr. Gittleson's immense knowledge, persistence, and most of all, big heart.”
