Governors Island

This is my favorite NYC local place to get away from the hustle & bustle of the NYC streets, just hop on a boat from Battery Park. This beautiful landmark has the best landscaped greenery besides Central Park in the city in Spring & Summer. Also, has the best views of NYC. The summer always has art festivals, concerts and other events. There is also a lot of history to be seen, The Williams Castle, Designed by Jonathan Williams, chief engineer of the Corps of Engineers and a great-nephew of Benjamin Franklin, created in 1811 to fight the British and later in Civil War housed as a prison for the Military had the most ruthless war prisoners. In the early 1900s the Coast Guard took over and eventually went into the cities hands to use as public space 1960s. There are many old Millitary houses and Barracks to tour. The island has water fountains to wade in, a little chicken & goat farm, plenty of green grassy space to run around on, sitting hammocks, food and drink carts. You can rent four wheeled bicycles to tour the island, or even better get a electric scooter or skateboard and enjoy because there are no cars:-) Check out the BIG slides on the south-west side of the island as well as the Lookout Hill. Just don't miss the last boat back to NYC or you will be camping there for the night :-/

Beautiful. Things to do for all ages. Slowly rebuilding areas. But still lots of places to eat and drink. Will definetely come back again soon.

Relaxing place to spend time with friends n family or have a small picnic while enjoying beautiful weather n nyc view. Stay away from renting citi bike, Island is very small , you will enjoy walking.
