Park is incredibly smaller now due to the construction to make it safer during storms. Construction has been moving along slowly but moving forward nonetheless. Excited to see the end result.
Dog park is open very dark at night and needs lights in the dog park and path to the ferry. (Pic below)
Baseball field is open
Restrooms are open and typically well maintained.
Small grass areas are open, and great events are still being held in the park for the community.
This is the big neighborhood park in Manhattan's lower east side and it has been the neighborhood playground for generations. It has a promenade along the East River with unobstructed views of the Brooklyn waterfront and the Williamsburg Bridge. There are sports fields for soccer, football and baseball together with tennis courts and children's playgrounds. Sadly, almost all of that is gone for the time being because of the flooding from Sandy. The park is mostly torn up while the city builds flood control along the riverfront. There are still bits of the park by Cherry Street, on the opposite side of the FDR Drive.
Very relax and peaceful park if you want to connect with nature and silence this is the perfect place
