Tom Jones Shelter

Good spot to camp in Harriman. Very close to the road from the North, a good hike in from the South (3-4 hours from Tuxedo or Dutch Doctor depending on amount of gear). Great views, many sites to set up at. Bring water, there is no water source up top; last reliable source South is Lake Skenonto and to the North the creek at Kanawauke road. Hang food and bring insect repellent

Hiked up here with a four year old. We all had a great time.

The view is absolutely terrific and you can see for miles. Only qualm is that the trail blaze is hard to see in some places on your way up and down.

Excellent destination for a short family hike. A little uphill, but nothing exhausting. Picnic at the top at the shelter with a spectacular view all around. Two fireplaces at the shelter should you need them for smores.
