Sanjay’s craftsmanship is par excellence and his handling of sitars almost magical. He put life back into an old, mid-range sitar I had, so much so that I am sure the maker of the sitar would be surprised at how beautiful his sitar could sound. He also designed a custom-made sitar for me that sounds most beautiful. Sanjay is also a great person, you can’t go wrong with him and neither can your sitar.
From the first second in meeting Sanjay Sharma, at his New York location, I was implicitly drawn by his absolute honesty, integrity, complete passion, humility, and ear for hearing and feeling the soul of his instruments. As a concert violinist, and working with some of the finest violin makers of our time, I see that his perfectionism for beauty and colors of sound stands with any of the finest makers of the violin. Since owning his instrument, I can't stop wishing to play it every free second that I can find. You will find this to be so as well, I'm sure! They are simply stunning!
I've turned to Sanjay and family since 1979 (Delhi) for purchase and care of all my instruments, their cases and necessary supplies. Aren't we fortunate to have his family now in the U.S.A.? They make sure every experience is a pleasure. . . . as they help us improve our music. Ever grateful.
Quality AND hospitality it what you’ll receive in full here at Rikhi Ram. I had heard of the top-most quality that precedes Sanjay’s craftsmanship. But I had no idea he would be handcrafting me a customized instrument from ground up according to my interests. The result? Beyond amazing. I was treated like family during my Delhi visit and even able to observe the construction process. I’m now developing my love for Hindustani music on a literal work of art that I know I’ll honor for the rest of my life.
The experience of working with Sanjayji is unique. His understanding of musical instruments is uncanny. He made one of my favorite sitars. I love the look and tone of it. It’s unique in structure. His finishing and emphasis on detailing is remarkable. One of the finest craftsmen in the Indian musical world.
